Nevada Governor Kenny Guinn has signed off on a bill giving golf courses a tax break. The measure changes the way golf courses are assessed for property tax purposes. Under the bill, golf courses will be considered open space.
The provision was backed by the Nevada Golf Course Owners Association and southern Nevada golf course mogul Billy Walters. Assessors say the changes in the bill could save the state's 100 golf courses as much as five million dollars a year in taxes.
Reno Assemblywoman Sheila Leslie was the only lawmaker to oppose the bill.
