It's not just the housing market that's feeling the effects of a sluggish economy.
According to the director of the Nevada Brothel Owner's Association, business is down about 25 percent at some of the state's legal houses.
At the Chicken Ranch in Pahrump, Nevada, the manager won't talk numbers but says the lack of business isn't nearly that serious, saying the Ranch has weathered other recessions, even September 11.
Still, she admits that the price of gas could eventually lead to a drop in weekend visitors.
"The same as Las Vegas - the same could be said for the Chicken Ranch," says Debbie Rivenburgh, manager. "Some of these people, when gas hits $5.00, might have second thoughts about jumping in the car and coming here."
The Chicken Ranch is approximately 60 miles from Las Vegas, in Nye County.
Nye County is one of the few areas in Nevada where prostitution is legal.
