Copper theft is a growing crime and on Thursday police caught another illegal copper operation in east Las Vegas. Police arrested three people, a father and two of his sons, for illegally selling stolen copper.
Investigators found 100,000 feet of stolen wire, which calculates to about $25,000. They say the thieves would bring the wire to Boulder Highway and Glenn, which is near Sahara, in the early morning hours.
The suspects would strip the wires and by the time the recycling yards open, they would be there waiting to sell the stolen copper. Investigators say it's a fast growing crime of opportunity.
