An overnight kitchen fire at an apartment complex sends five people to the hospital.
One man suffered third degree burns to half his body and a neighbor is being treated for smoke inhalation after trying to rescue the family.
Fire officials believe the fire broke out while the man was cooking.
"We also got reports from 911 that there were two small children in there, six years old and three years old. It says that mom was lowering them from the balcony of the apartment. She was transported to the hospital, as well as the two children," says Tim Szymanski, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue. "They were suffering from smoke inhalation as well as a neighbor that was trying to make sure everyone was out."
The kitchen is gutted and the rest of the apartment has heavy smoke damage. A few other nearby apartments have minor damage as well.
