A local mother is in jail, accused of the unthinkable: murdering her five-year-old daughter.

The little girl drowned - but not in a pool; she drowned in the family's bathtub.

News 3's Anita Roman digs deeper for details in the investigation.

The 24-year-old mother was arrested Thursday morning even though the incident happened a few days ago.

Metro says once they looked at all of the facts, the mother's story just didn't add up.

During a press conference discussing summer drownings, Captain Vincent Cannito announced the details of one particular incident Metro responded to earlier in the week.

"On the 30th of June, a five-year-old girl, D'Amber Myles, was placed in a bath tub by her mother, Raven Gibbons. Placed in the bathtub and then left. That child drowned in the bathtub."

As a result, Gibbons was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of second degree murder and child neglect with substantial bodily harm.

"According to Ms. Gibbons, she states that she left her child in the tub for approximately ten minutes. The child has cerebral palsy. The stopper was in the tub, the shower head was turned on, (and) the door was closed."

The drowning occurred at an apartment complex in the 5300 block of East Craig Road.

Even though they didn't know Gibbons, residents who live nearby say they are shocked a parent could let something like this happen to a sick child.

"That's - wow - that's sad," says Sarina Pettyjohn, concerned parent. "It's something that leaves you speechless more or less because how could you do that, especially when there is something wrong with the child? To leave them unattended..."

Captain Cannito says when the facts of the case were brought to light, the District Attorney's Office was notified and Gibbons was charged.

There is no bail set for Gibbons and local records show the woman has no arrest record here in Clark County.

In addition to the June 30 drowning, Metro responded to two other drownings this week; both of them occurred in swimming pools.
